Power: High quality and uninterrupted power supplied from NLC NTPC. In addition a 32 MW gas based power plant has been commissioned in Karaikal.  In fact, Puducherry's power tariff is the lowest among other states.
Opportunities : Puducherry's strategic and logistical advantages have been exploited by a variety of industries. Some of them are - IBM, Compaq, Wipro, Acer (Computer hardwares), Lucas TVS (Starters) , L&T (Transmission Line Towers) , Whirlpool (Washing machines) , Owens-Brockway (Glass containers) , HLL (Cosmetcis & Leather items), Foseco (Moulded flux), Henkel (Detergent & Soaps) , Kotharis (Chemicals) , Shrirams (Honda Generators) , Chemfab (Caustic soda & Chlorine), Chemcrown (Thermoplastic shoe sole comonents) , Hindustan Motors (Front & Loader),   Supreme (Moulded  plastic items) , Nilkamal (Moulded plastic items) , MRF (Tyres) .
New Industrial areas: The Electronic Park in Thirubuvanai on an area of 52 acres has been setup and plots are being allotted.  Ready Built Factory buildings are also ready for allotment. An information Technology Park has been  set up in the premises of Puducherry Engineering College. A Growth Centre is being set up in Karaikal over an area of 597 acres. The integrated infrastructure Development Project at Sedarapet  is under implementation. A free Trade Zone is also being planned and private sector participation is triveled in conceptualising, designing ad development.
Dynamic Economy:
The revenue collection in 1999-2000 totaled Rs. 866.02 crores showing an increase of 118.58 crores over 1998-99. This is just one of the indicators of growth of the Puducherry economy. Puducherry has a high per capital income, well above the all-India average and the highest per capital investment in industries in the country. Spectacular performance on the export front is another indicator of vibrant economy. 
Infrastructure: Well maintained roads connecting Chennai and other main roads. The Puducherry - Villipuram railway line will be converted into a broad guage line this financial year. Good Telecom Infrastructure - cellular/pager networks. ISDN, Internet facilities etc.
Concessions & Incentives: 
Sales tax concessions of 1% on electricity consumption charges is allowed for units which export at least 10% of their product in a year. In order to encourage Small Scale Industries to employ local people in their units, it is proposed to grant subsidy to Small Scale Industries at the following rates.

Rs.100 per month/person subject to a maximum subsidy of Rs.12,000 per annum per unit.

In order to motivate industrialist and entrepreneurs to install Pollution control equipment in their industries, it is proposed to adopt the following pattern of assistance:

             a. Rate of Incentive for Small scale industries:-

50% of the cost of pollution control machinery and equipment with a ceiling of Rs.5.00 lakhs per unit.

b. The Rate of Incentives for Medium and Large scale industries

25% of the cost of pollution control machinery and equipment with ceiling of Rs.5.00 lakhs per unit.

For IT Related Industries:

Sales Tax Exemption                 - 10 Years
Capital Subsidy                           - 20 %
Subsidy on Leased Line Rentral  - 50 %
Rate of Interest                          - 0.5% less
Property Tax on Land and Building          - Exempted

Stamp duty - exempted on loan given by PIPDIC for the units in IT Park.

For SC/ST or Women Entrepreneurs:

  • Investment Subsidy on fixed capital to the tune of 25% of the investment subject to a maximum of Rs.25 lakhs.

  • Interest Subsidy @ 5.5% is granted for a period of five years, subject to a maximum of Rs.20,000/- per unit per annum.

  • Rent Subsidy at the following sliding percentage for a period of five years for SC/ST or Women Entrepreneurs who start industry in rented shed owned by PIPDIC or Industries Department.

                           i) For the first two years           : 50% of the Rent paid

                          ii) For the third year                  : 40% of the Rent paid

                         iii) For the fourth and fifth year : 30% of the Rent paid.

              10% of the plots and shed will be reserved in the proposed Industrial Estates.
